Lean Thinking — Eliminate Waste, Deliver Value

See waste everywhere and design processes that flow

Lean is not about cutting costs — it is about removing everything that does not add value to the customer. This course teaches you to see the 8 wastes, map value streams, and design leaner processes in manufacturing, software, or services.

Framework: TIMWOODS (8 Wastes) + Value Stream Mapping

TIMWOODS names the 8 wastes: Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Over-processing, Defects, and Skills (unused). Value Stream Mapping visualises the current state of a process and designs a leaner future state by eliminating these wastes.

Capstone Project: Value Stream Map a Software Process

Map the current state of a provided software bug triage process, identify the three largest waste sources using TIMWOODS, and design a future state that reduces lead time by at least 40%.
